›The Limits of Responsibility‹
In his work titled The Limits of Responsibility Nikita Kadan offers a documentation of the recent protests in Kiev’s Maidan square, while resisting the typical photo- journalistic mode of representation. Kadan’s slideshow depicts a collection of unassuming urban vegetable gardens, planted by the protesters on the grounds of their encampment. The fruit of the square’s occupation is here translated both literally—vegetables—and metaphorically —as a site of regeneration, a rooting of claims and an aspiration for an independent ecology of shared sustenance. As opposed to spectacular images of protest, Kadan offers an antidote, a non-event.
